In May 2009 the Africa Commission launched its report Realising the Potential of Africa’s Youth with a number of recommendations and five international initiatives with a view to refocusing the development agenda for the African Continent through promotion of youth employment and private sector led growth. The Commission also decided to issue a Progress Report in time for the High Level Plenary Meeting of the UN on the MDGs in September 2010.
This Progress Report, entitled Growth and Employment: Visions at Work presents in Part 1 progress in the implementation of the Africa Commission’s recommendations and initiatives by mid-2010. Work on the implementation of the Commission’s initiatives is well under way. In Part 2, the Report lends space to a number of key-note articles by commissioners and other prominent persons on matters of concern to Africa, while Part 3 is dedicated to shorter articles sharing relevant experience and lessons learnt.
